Story Map on the Alaska Landbird Monitoring Survey
A creative story map showcasing the Alaska Landbird Monitoring Survey (ALMS) has recently been developed by the Alaska Migratory Bird Management of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. This highly collaborative monitoring program was created by the USGS Alaska Science Center in cooperation with Boreal Partners in Flight to monitor breeding bird populations across the vast roadless area of Alaska.
Robert McDermott, Ph.D.
Rob McDermott is a USGS Mendenhall Postdoctoral Fellow at the Alaska Science Center in Anchorage, Alaska. His primary research tool is low-temperature thermochronology (particularly the (U-Th)/He system in Fe-oxide, apatite, and zircon), complemented by detailed field and microtextural observations and modeling of thermal processes.
USGS Transboundary River Monitoring in Southeast Alaska
The USGS Alaska Science Center operates super gages on the Alsek, Taku, Stikine, Unuk and Salmon Rivers. Discrete water quality, sediment, and biological sampling are also collected at each gage location. Discrete water quality samples are also collected annually at the Canada-Alaska border crossings of the Taku, Stikine, and Unuk Rivers. Water quality data collection began in 2018 on the Unuk River.
