Our science staff has developed a suite of software products designed to enhance research and data analysis capabilities. Each product plays a crucial role in facilitating access to data and analyses relevant to groundwater and surface water monitoring in the region.
The R-package inldata that consolidates datasets from the USGS Idaho National Laboratory's groundwater and surface water monitoring networks. Managed by the USGS-INL Project Office and the U.S. Department of Energy, inldata provides essential data for evaluating the impacts of waste disposal on the eastern Snake River Plain aquifer and long-term water availability. It features historical water-quality samples, groundwater-level measurements, surface water data, and geospatial information, streamlining data acquisition and analysis.
The R-package inlpubs enables users to search and analyze publications from the USGS Idaho Water Science Center and the Idaho National Laboratory Project Office. Spanning over 75 years and authored by more than 250 researchers, these publications provide critical insights into the effects of waste disposal on the eastern Snake River Plain aquifer and its long-term water availability, thereby supporting effective aquifer management initiatives by the Idaho National Laboratory and the State of Idaho.
The R-package mlms dedicated to processing Multilevel Monitoring System (MLMS) data from wells within the USGS aquifer-monitoring network at the Idaho National Laboratory. Backed by the U.S. Department of Energy, this package enables the collection of hydraulic head measurements from multiple wells across the eastern Snake River Plain aquifer, based on fluid pressure, temperature, and atmospheric pressure data. Each well is equipped with an MLMS for monitoring at specific depth intervals, with groundwater samples analyzed for various chemical and physical parameters.
The R-package webmap leverages the JavaScript Leaflet library to create dynamic web maps. It integrates smoothly with base layers from The National Map (TNM), delivering essential geospatial information about the U.S. and its territories. Note that detailed base layers for regions outside the U.S. may be limited at higher spatial scales, and availability outside standard government hours cannot be guaranteed. Designed to work alongside the Leaflet for R package, webmap enhances mapping capabilities with utility functions that simplify the creation of engaging visualizations for users of all skill levels.
The R-package inlcolor offers a comprehensive selection of color schemes to support various research packages and scripts developed by the USGS Idaho National Laboratory Project Office (INLPO). With a user-friendly API, inlcolor provides qualitative, diverging, and sequential color palettes, allows for the combination of color palettes using a hinge location, simulates color blindness, and features minimal dependencies. Its purpose is to serve as a comprehensive resource for color schemes used in maps and graphs featured in INLPO publications.
