Banders should plan ahead for the next season's field work. Requesting changes to an existing permit, such as adding or removing authorizations must be made in advance of banding activities. Please fill out the Additional Authorization Request Checklist and provide all the necessary information required for each type of authorization. Allow at least 8 weeks for the BBL to process your request. Additional time may be required regarding the coordination of auxiliary markers when multiple banders marking the same species. Coordination is the responsibility of the banders.
Examples of additional authorizations include:
- Species
- Location (State)
- Auxiliary Markers
- Sampling such as blood and feather collection or swabbing
- Adding a sub-permit
- Removing a sub-permit or authorization
- Capture techniques
Please make a request using the Additional Authorization Request Checklist.
U.S. banders who wish to request additional authorizations should send a request to bbl_permits@usgs.gov.
Canadian banders should send requests to bbo@ec.gc.ca.
Please allow 2 months lead time to process your request.
