Prior to Memo to All Banders, the Bird Banding Laboratory utilized Bird Banding Notes to communicate with banders between 1922 and 1966, issuing a total of 6 volumes. Vol. 6 No. 1 of the Bird Banding Notes was released in March 1966. Subjects in this note are 1. Departure of WT Van Velzen; 2. Comments on bird banding purposes, policies and procedures; 3. New personnel; 4. Overhaul of filing systems within the BBL; 5. Change in procedures of issuing and renewing banding permits; 6. Band accountability; 7. If you change your address; 8. Banding correspondence; 9. Limitations on the handling of previously banded birds; 10. Another record-breaking year in the BBL; 10. Check your recovery dates; 11. Second reminder; 12. Questions from the bander; 13. Release of banding and recovery data from the BBL files; 14. Limitation on the use of USFWS bands; 15. Do you belong; 16. Bulletin board; 16. Corrigenda; 17. Is your house in order?; 18. A request for data pertaining to age or sex determination techniques; 19. Temporary location for “print-outs” of new codes on recovery cards and listings; and 20.
