Detailed Description

A 2024 Annual National Land Cover Database (NLCD) image of the Los Angeles, California, area before the Palisades Fire happened in January 2025. The yellow outline represents the fire's perimeter. The medium brown color indicates shrub/scrub land cover such as chapparal; dark green is evergreen forest; and shades of red are developed cities and roads, with darker shades indicating more intense areas of development. Elsewhere, light tan is grassland, and dark blue is open water, including the Pacific Ocean at the bottom.
