Photograph of a finely laminated pedogenic carbonate coating developed on the underside of an alluvial clast of basalt from the Taos Plateau, northern New Mexico.  Detritus-poor pedogenic coatings are used to constrain minimum ages of alluvial deposition using U-series disequilibrium dating.
