Aleutian Arc

In the Aleutian Islands, the USGS participated in a joint expedition with BOEM, WHOI and NOAA that collected baseline seafloor observations, oceanographic measurements, multibeam echosounder data, and subbottom profiles in areas that hold potential for marine mineral resources. These datasets support geohazard assessments in this seismically active region, improve understanding of benthic ecosystems, and inform resource evaluation and hazard preparedness efforts.
