Andrena uvulariae, M, back, Falls Church, Virginia

Detailed Description

Rare Bee Alert. Andrena uvulariae was described many years ago from specimens collected where I work in Beltsville, MD and then...it largely went off the radar screen as a legit species and all things that looked like this species were simply called A. ziziaformis. Super hero bee field workers Mike Arduser with additional work from John Ascher found some additional specimens (including ones from me) and a better sense of its identity was formed. These specimens are from John Milam from Massachusetts. Photography by Brooke Alexander. Photography Information: Canon Mark II 5D, Zerene Stacker, Stackshot Sled, 65mm Canon MP-E 1-5X macro lens, Twin Macro Flash in Styrofoam Cooler, F5.0, ISO 100, Shutter Speed 200. USGSBIML Photoshopping Technique: Note that we now have added using the burn tool at 50% opacity set to shadows to clean up the halos that bleed into the black background from "hot" color sections of the picture.
