Anthophora urbana, back, Hidalgo Co., NM

Detailed Description

Captured by the butterfly convert Don Harvey in the wilds of Hidalgo County, New Mexico, here is the hunky Anthophora urbana; captured, as you can see from the pollen covering it, after servicing the local flowers. This is one of the most common Anthophora in the West and unlike most bees who get up around 9 a.m. or so, our friend A. urbana gets up early and will be foraging soon after dawn. Thank you bees. Photography Information: Canon Mark II 5D, Zerene Stacker, Stackshot Sled, 65mm Canon MP-E 1-5X macro lens, Twin Macro Flash in Styrofoam Cooler, F5.0, ISO 100, Shutter Speed 200. USGSBIML Photoshopping Technique: Note that we now have added using the burn tool at 50% opacity set to shadows to clean up the halos that bleed into the black background from "hot" color sections of the picture.
