USGS scientist Caitlin Reynolds stands beside a sediment trap on the deck of the R/V Pelican after its retrieval from its anchor points at the bottom of the Gulf of America. Sediment and foraminifera are caught in the large area at the top of the funnel, then collected in a jar at the bottom of the funnel.
