Detailed Description
This animated gif showing changes to Kīlauea summit region during the episodic lava fountaining eruption. The first satellite image was taken on November 27, 2024, before the eruption began. Subsequent images were taken as the eruption progressed, on December 23, 2024, February 10, 2025, May 3, 2025, July 25, 2025, August 21, 2025, September 23, 2025, October 31, 2025, November 24, 2025, December 11, 2025, and January 7, 2025. Imagery shows the tephra deposit growing in the predominant wind direction, to the southwest of the eruptive vents in Halemaʻumaʻu in the closed area of Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park.
