Example of a landscape evolution model

Animation highlighting the development of a landscape as simulated by a landscape evolution model. As relief develops in the model, dendritic valley networks expand toward the center of the simulation. Eventually, these valley networks become steep enough that they can erode as quickly as rocks are uplifted by tectonics - leading to the development of an equilibrium landscape condition.
