Detailed Description
The Filchner Ice Shelf on the coast of Antarctica faces the Atlantic Ocean. This image was acquired November 11, 1973 by the Landsat 1 satellite.
In the austral winter of 1986, the front edge of the Filchner Ice Shelf broke off into the sea, forming three large icebergs, named A22, A23, and A24.
