Golden Canyon

Detailed Description

A hike through Golden Canyon provides spectacular views of eroding badlands in late Tertiary-age rock formations (Artist Drive and Furnace Creek Formations) (Hunt and Mabey, 1966, Hunt, 1975; Wright and others, 1999). The canyon trail starts at its low end at a trailhead on Highway 178 about two miles south of the intersection with Highway 190 at Furnace Creek. Uphill, the trail connects with access trails to Zabriskie Point and Gower Gulch. This view is toward the west looking down Golden Canyon from below Manly Beacon (a prominent landscape feature). The Panamint Mountains are in the distance.
