Groundwater Pumping on Long Island, New York – Source of Water

Detailed Description

Groundwater Pumping on Long Island, New York – Source of Water: The figure above illustrates a hypothetical groundwater-contributing area for a pumping well near contamination sources. For steady-state conditions, the amount of water pumped from a well must be satisfied by a recharge area at land surface such that the area multiplied by the recharge rate equals the pumping rate. In this example, there are two sources of contamination near the pumping well, but only one of them is within the contributing area to the well, and therefore, only one of them will contribute contamination to the pumping well, assuming the pumping and recharge rates remain constant.
