 Groundwater in Storage on Long Island, New York: The figure above shows a simplified estimate of water stored in the Long Island aquifer system based on the total area of Long Island (~1,400 sq mi), average thickness of the aquifer above the Raritan confining unit (~700 ft), and an assumed specific yield value of 0.25.  Based on these assumptions, there is about 50 trillion gallons (Tgal) of water in storage.
