Detailed Description
Image from histology slide from 2024 of Chinook heart tissue. Tissue was stained with Periodic Acid-Schiff's stain after being fixed in formalin for paraffin wax embedding and sectioning at 4 microns. Image taken with 200x magnification. Shown in image are 3 parasitic schizonts from the fish parasite Ichntheophonus sp. Encysted in the heart tissue. Parasitic infections of Chinook by these parasites can affect fish health and commercial value of fish tissue.
