Detailed Description
Green Bay, Wisconsin, is home to one of North America's most prominent walleye fisheries, attracting anglers from across the continent and contributing millions of dollars to local economies. It is a top destination for competitive walleye tournaments, where USGS researchers at the Wisconsin Cooperative Fishery Research Unit partner with Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and tournament organizations to collect important data from the fish caught. However, walleye populations have declined in recent decades, raising concerns for state and tribal fishery managers and the public, including tribal members and local business owners. We work with the Wisconsin and Michigan Departments of Natural Resources to better understand walleye spawning locations and distribution in Green Bay.
