Kentucky Drought Condition Monitor

Detailed Description

The Kentucky Drought Condition Monitor was developed to provide drought indices in one accessible application so that federal, state, and local agency staff can make determinations about drought status.

The USGS Ohio-Kentucky-Indiana Water Science Center and Kentucky Agricultural Development Board rely upon several parameters to monitor water-supply-drought conditions. Among these, four parameters are displayed: precipitation, streamflow, groundwater level, and crop moisture index. These parameters are frequently used by the Kentucky Drought Mitigation and Response Plan (2008) and the United States Drought Monitor mapper as indicators of the four stages of drought: drought advisory, moderate drought, severe drought, and extreme drought.
