Landsat Collection 2 Level-2 Science Products

Detailed Description

The USGS provides research-quality, applications-ready Landsat Level-2 and Level-3 science products to support an array of land surface change studies. Collection 2 Level-2 scene-based science products include Surface Reflectance, Surface Temperature, Surface Reflectance-Derived Spectral Indices, and Provisional Aquatic Reflectance.

Surface Reflectance measures the fraction of incoming solar radiation that is reflected from the Earth’s surface and improves the comparison between multiple images by accounting for atmospheric effects.

Surface Temperature measures the Earth’s surface temperatures in Kelvin and is a valuable parameter in global energy balance studies, hydrological modeling, vegetation monitoring, and more.

Surface Reflectance-Derived Spectral Indices provide eight different measures that offer insights into vegetation health, moisture content, burn severity, and snow cover.

Provisional Aquatic Reflectance is an experimental science product that provides a measure of ocean color and offers the potential to make a valuable contribution to aquatic environmental monitoring.

The Surface Reflectance and Surface Temperature files were downloaded from EarthExplorer.

The Spectral Indices and Provisional Aquatic Reflectance were requested from the EROS Science Processing Architecture (ESPA) On Demand Interface.

Each product is derived from a Landsat 8 scene (Path 015/Row 033) acquired on September 10, 2024.
