Detailed Description

Following the 13th International Coral Reef Symposium in June, USGS researchers took a tour of Maui's Marine Protected Areas -- like this one, on the south side of Molokini crater. The corals here have suffered from bleaching, which is caused by increased ocean temperatures and leaves corals highly susceptible to disease and stress from runoff and pollution.
