Detailed Description

Natural Recharge: Soil-Water Balance Model of Long Island, New York: The figure above shows natural recharge calculated from the Soil-Water Balance model for Long Island, NY. Factors that affect the amount of natural recharge that reaches the water table include: precipitation, temperature, soil type, topography, land use, and impervious surface.  The USGS Soil-Water Balance model (Westenbroek and others, 2010) was used to calculate natural recharge for current (2005-2015) conditions.
