New USGS Large Research Vessels In the Water

Construction of the two newest additions to the U.S. Geological Survey Great Lakes Science Center's fleet of large research vessels is nearing completion. The two new USGS research vessels will replace the aging vessels on lakes Erie and Ontario. They will provide safe and reliable platforms for scientists, and will be equipped with state-of-the-art scientific instrumentation to improve the understanding of deep-water ecosystems and fishes in lakes Erie and Ontario and expand the scientific information available to partners who manage the fishery resources in these lakes.
