The New Youngs Bay Bridge

Detailed Description

The New Youngs Bay Bridge is a vertical-lift bridge on U.S. Route 101, connecting Astoria and Warrenton over Youngs Bay. It spans 4,200 feet (1,300 m) and was completed in 1964. Plans began in 1948, and the state approved the project in the late 1950s. In 1955, officials chose to route the bridge over the bay instead of an inland alternative. Construction started in March 1963, and the bridge was dedicated on August 29, 1964.
