Nomada imbricata, F, side, Pr. Georges Co., Maryland

Detailed Description

The lovely Nomada imbricata, a bee that looks like a wasp, which, it turns out are all bees really are anyway...modified wasps. In this case this bee has no need to look like a bee since it does not carry pollen nor build its own nest, instead it invades the nests of the large Andrenid bees and lays its eggs in their nest and Ms. imbricata's young kill the host young and eat all their food. Its rough out there. Canon Mark II 5D, Zerene Stacker, 65mm Canon MP-E 1-5X macro lens, Twin Macro Flash, F5.0, ISO 100, Shutter Speed 200, link to a .pdf of our set up is located in our profile
