Paranthidium jugatorium, m, ga, baker, side

Detailed Description

Why do you insist, Pilgrim, on planting your garden with geraniums, tea roses, and begonias? You could be planting your garden to Woodlands sunflowers and then you would have the opportunity to help out the uncommon and undoubtedly declining Paranthidium jugatorium. For this bee, in the eastern part of the United States, seems only to want to feed its babies with the pollen of this plant. In the western part of its range, likely it is feeding its babies pollen from closely related species. Small things like this becomes your responsibility for saving the world just as riding your bicycle instead of taking the car might be. Another specimen from Sabrie Breland from the wonderful South Georgia. Photography Information: Canon Mark II 5D, Zerene Stacker, Stackshot Sled, 65mm Canon MP-E 1-5X macro lens, Twin Macro Flash in Styrofoam Cooler, F5.0, ISO 100, Shutter Speed 200. USGSBIML Photoshopping Technique: Note that we now have added using the burn tool at 50% opacity set to shadows to clean up the halos that bleed into the black background from "hot" color sections of the picture.
