Pivot Irrigation in the High Plains Aquifer Region

Irrigated agriculture is the dominant use of groundwater from the High Plains aquifer and can have substantial effects on groundwater quantity and quality in this important aquifer system. Groundwater from the aquifer sustains more than one-fourth of the Nation’s agricultural production and serves as the primary source of drinking water for most residents of the region.
