Recharge from Wastewater Returnflow on Long Island, New York

Detailed Description

Recharge from Wastewater Returnflow on Long Island, New York: The figure above shows the areal extent of recharge from wastewater returnflow on Long Island, NY. In areas that are not sewered and serviced by centralized wastewater-treatment facilities, most of the water consumed in residential areas is returned to the aquifer system through domestic-septic systems as what is referred to as "wastewater returnflow".  In high-density residential areas, this water can account for a significant amount of water returned to the aquifer system.
