Seasonal outlook for Alaska for winter as issued by NOAA on August 20, 2026.

Detailed Description

Modified from: Climate Prediction Center - Seasonal Outlook (accessed August 24, 2026). For temperature, the areas marked in orange suggest that forecasters have somewhat more confidence that the average temperatures will be warmer than usual. Most of this confidence is associated with recent temperature trends for warming across the Arctic region. For precipitation, areas marked in green have a slight shift in the odds toward wetter conditions while the western shore (marked in brown) have a slight shift in odds toward drier conditions. Areas in white suggest equal chances of below-, above-, or near-normal precipitation for this time. El Niño is not a strong predictor of precipitation shifts for most of Alaska.
