Trachusa dorsalis, f, face, Sussex Co., VA

Detailed Description

Who doestn't love a nicely striped bee? Truchusa dorsalis on display here with stripes made on Fort A.P. Hill in Virginia and later picked up by the Virginia Heritage Group in their surveys. This is a new state record, somewhat bridging records in the Pine Barrens of NJ and those of the North Carolina. So, I suppose we should look at bit more closely and try to find some fuzzybeans (the pollen they feed their young) in our small sand areas. Fuzzybeans should be planted more often, they are native, but the name demands planting in of itself. Pictures by Kelly Graninger and Erick Hernandez. Photography Information: Canon Mark II 5D, Zerene Stacker, Stackshot Sled, 65mm Canon MP-E 1-5X macro lens, Twin Macro Flash in Styrofoam Cooler, F5.0, ISO 100, Shutter Speed 200, USGSBIML Photoshopping Technique: Note that we now have added using the burn tool at 50% opacity set to shadows to clean up the halos that bleed into the black background from "hot" color sections of the picture.
