USGS EROS Interns Study Fire in Black Hills National Forest

Detailed Description

USGS Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS) Fire Science studied fire severity and comparing traditional field measurements with lidar scans in Black Hills National Park and Sequoia National Park this summer. “Sometimes, there was no way for us to get out of the scans,” said Katelyn Woolfrey, one of three interns involved in the fieldwork. “So we had to go back and manually delete all the points that came from people.” She preserved one untouched lidar scan from Black Hills National Forest as an example.
