USGS EROS Interns Study Fire in Sequoia National Park

Birgit Peterson, USGS Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS) Fire Science Lead, and intern Hazel Mebius hike through a meadow in Sequoia National Park as part of a summer fieldwork campaign studying fire severity using traditional methods and lidar. “We are collecting field data to help demonstrate how lidar observations can scale from point to landscape to regional scales,” said Peterson. Mebius will continue to work part time during the school year analyzing the data collected.
