USGS Wetland and Aquatic Research Center History
Detailed Description
The USGS Wetland and Aquatic Research Center (WARC) conducts relevant and objective research, develops new approaches and technologies, and disseminates scientific information needed to understand, manage, conserve, and restore wetlands and other aquatic and coastal ecosystems and their associated plant and animal communities throughout the nation and the world. WARC was formed in 2015, but the science Centers that combined to make WARC each have a long history tracing back nearly a century. While the names and organization have changed over time, the mission has remained the same: gather, analyze, and disseminate the biological information necessary for the sound stewardship of our Nation's natural resources and foster an understanding of biological systems across the Gulf and the benefits they provide to society.
