The Utah Forest Dynamics Plot (UFDP) in Cedar Breaks National Monument

As part of his fire research, James Lutz of Utah State University called attention to how forests with different make-ups, like the aspen mixed with conifers in this picture of the Utah Forest Dynamics Plot (UFDP), might burn with varying severity depending on the size of the fire. Lutz manages the UFDP, which is located on the north rim of Cedar Breaks National Monument.
