USGS Research on the Changing Cryosphere
Detailed Description
Climate change has a profound effect on the Earth’s cryosphere, the portions of the planet's surface dominated by snow and ice. This has impacts on global water supplies, economies, coastal communities, and ecosystems. The USGS monitors snow, ice, and permafrost across the country and develops science to help communities respond to the many diverse effects of a warming cryosphere.
