Five decades of progress in landslide assessments
Detailed Description
Many of the ideas and principles embodied in present-day local and regional assessments of landslide potential can be traced to the early 1970s. This applies to both temporal forecasts and spatial assessments, such as landslide susceptibility mapping. After reviewing some key developments in these areas, I'll present an example of an ongoing assessment for Puerto Rico and wrap up with some discussion of tradeoffs arising from different approaches and considerations in arriving at an optimal assessment.
