January 27, 2026 USGS Hydrography Community Call: Enriching your enterprise hydrography layers with data: Washington State
Detailed Description
Our presenter will be Josh Greenberg, the Washington Hydrography Data Steward (WASHD).
- Abstract:
Since 2011 the National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) has been the Washington state standard for hydrography. Several databases connect to NHD to locate data to build off the data included in the NHD features. Linear referencing and dynamic segmentation are often used to connect data to specific bodies of water. Traditionally, the NHD and ReachCode have been used for linear referencing. Reach codes are no longer maintained and are not part of the 3D Hydrography Program. Because of this, there is a need to modernize the approach to linear referencing.
- This presentation will highlight some of the Washington programs that have been linking data to NHD, why linear referencing is important, and the plans to move these data from the NHD reference to a system that works with the new 3DHP.
