Detailed Description

This animation shows interpolated movements of 11 telemetered grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella) that were detected on acoustic receiver arrays in the Sandusky River, OH, USA during 19-27 May 2022 (Acre et al. 2024). Telemetered grass carp appear in the animation at the time and location of their first true detection during 19-27 May 2022. Grass carp positions between true detections were interpolated using the g_latos_ package in R version 4.4.1 (Holbrook et al. 2017; R Core Team 2024). Coordinated upstream grass carp movements coincide with collection of fertilized grass carp eggs on 23 May 2022 (Hilling and Brown 2023). Early life stage sampling and acoustic telemetry information are being used to describe patterns in space use that inform the timing, location, and methods used to capture of invasive grass carp in Lake Erie tributaries.

The mapped area is centered on the Sandusky River in Ohio, with Latitudes shown from approximately 41.33N to 41.47N and Longitudes from 83.11W to 82.99W wth legend entries representing individual fish monitored in the study. Lake Erie and the continental United States are inset.
