USGS S.O. Conte Research Laboratory EA for the Proposed Sewerline Project is available and seeking public comment.

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) has prepared an Environmental Assessment (EA) for the proposed Conte Sewer Connection Project at the Eastern Ecological Science Center at the S.O. Conte Research Laboratory in Turners Falls, Franklin County, Massachusetts. The project would connect the facility to the Town of Montague’s municipal sewer system, replacing the existing septic system with a more reliable and environmentally protective wastewater management solution.

In accordance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (54 U.S.C. § 306108), the USGS is also considering the effects of the proposed undertaking on historic properties. This notice is being provided to inform the public and to solicit input from individuals or organizations with knowledge of, or interest in, historic properties that may be affected by the project.

A public comment period is open from April 23, 2026 through May 22, 2026. The Environmental Assessment is available for public review here:
