GLSC staff volunteer at Great Lakes Bowl high school competition

February 7, 2019

This is one of many regional events leading up to the National Ocean Science Bowl later this year in Washington DC.

Several GLSC staff, Patty Armenio, Josh Miller, Baileigh Reed-Grimmett, Mckenzie Smith, Wendylee Stott, and Taaja Tucker, along with more than 50 other volunteers, again helped facilitate the Great Lakes Bowl, a regional competition organized by Michigan Sea Grant for the National Ocean Sciences Bowl. The event was held at the University of Michigan's School of Environment and Sustainability in Ann Arbor, Michigan, on February 2, 2019. The competition tests high school students’ knowledge of oceanography, limnology, and marine policy. Troy High School (Troy, MI) won the competition and will compete in the finals on April 11-14 at the national competition in Washington, DC.

This annual event is an opportunity for GLSC staff to serve alongside students from the University of Michigan and other volunteers and sponsors from a host of close regional partners such as the Great Lakes Fishery Commission, NOAA’s Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory, and the University of Michigan’s Water Center.
