New MSL Video: Fly over Mount Sharp on Mars

An exciting new animation shows a proposed route for NASA's Curiosity Rover, which is climbing Mount Sharp on Mars. This animation shows a proposed route for NASA's Curiosity rover, which is climbing lower Mount Sharp on Mars. With help from NASA’s Curiosity Rover, this new animation shows us what it would be like to fly over Mount Sharp on Mars.

The video shows several regions on Mount Sharp that are particularly interesting to Planetary Scientists. Each of the emphasized regions represents a different geological period for Mount Sharp.  The video also takes us over Curiosity’s proposed future path - where we hope Curiosity will visit places that will help Planetary Scientists to understand why water on the mountain dried up overtime.   

Comprehending these climatological changes on Mount Sharp may provide new understanding into why water vanished from Mars billions of years ago.
