Next Generation Lunar Rover Visits the Astrogeology Science Center!
One of the things that the Apollo astronauts did while training in Flagstaff was to learn how to drive on the Moon. The astronauts trained on a purpose-built rover named Grover (short for Geologic rover), which has long since been retired and is now on display at the Astrogeology Science Center. A team from Arizona State University is developing the next generation training rover for future astronauts bound for the Lunar surface. This rover, named Tycho, spent the past summer doing field trials in the Flagstaff area. Before heading back to Phoenix, members of the Tycho team provided a quick demonstration of the rover at the USGS Flagstaff Science Campus.
