Weidel speaks at four Lake Ontario fishery public meetings

March 7, 2019

State of Lake Ontario Fisheries

Research Fisheries Biologist Dr. Brian Weidel (GLSC, Oswego, New York) will present findings on Lake Ontario prey fishes at four evening meetings held throughout New York State this March. The “State of the Lake” meetings, hosted by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC), educate stakeholders on the status and science-supported management of Lake Ontario’s world-class trout and salmon fisheries. Dr. Weidel’s presentations focus on the lake’s Alewife population illustrating how climate, nutrient inputs, and predator abundance influence the lake's primary prey fish and ultimately resource management decision-making. The NYSDEC issued a press release for the meeting.
