The Bald Rock Roadless Area consists of 3,850 acres in Butte County, Calif. The Middle Rock Feather River Roadless Area consists of 29,300 acres ub Butte and Plumas Counties, Calif. Both roadless areas are in the Plumas National Forest and are on the west slope of the northern Sierra Nevada southwest of Quincy, Calif. (fig. 1). The two roadless areas are alined along the Middle Fork of...

Map showing gravel-bearing surficial deposits and basaltic rocks near Trinidad, Las Animas County, Colorado Map showing gravel-bearing surficial deposits and basaltic rocks near Trinidad, Las Animas County, Colorado

This map of the Trinidad area is considered to be a special purpose map, as it shows only gravel-bearing alluvial deposits laid down by streams and a series of stacked lava flows erupted from local volcanoes. Nongravelly surficial deposits and Cretaceous bedrock, which would be on a standard geologic map, are not shown. The map has two purposes: a scientific one to show the distribution

Map showing ground failures from the Greenville/Mount Diablo earthquake sequence of January 1980, Northern California Map showing ground failures from the Greenville/Mount Diablo earthquake sequence of January 1980, Northern California

The Greenville/Mt. Diablo earthquake sequence of January 24-26, 1980, was composed of Small and moderate earthquakes; the two largest shocks, on January 24 and 26, were of magnitudes (M) 5.5 and 5.6, respectively (Bolt and others, 1981). A 5.5 event is at the lower end of the range of earthquake magnitudes which cause observable ground failure (Youd and Perkins, 1978; Keefer, 1984)...

Map showing mines, prospects, and mineral sites in the Ellicott Rock Wilderness and additions, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Georgia Map showing mines, prospects, and mineral sites in the Ellicott Rock Wilderness and additions, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Georgia

The Ellicott Rock Wilderness and additions were investigated for mineral resources by the U.S. Bureau of Mines (USBM) in the fall of 1978 and the fall of 1979; the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) mapped the geology in 1978 and 1979 (Bell and Luce, 1983) and assessed the mineral resource potential of the study area (Luce and others, 1983).

Map showing Tertiary stratigraphy and structure of the Northern San Joaquin Valley, California Map showing Tertiary stratigraphy and structure of the Northern San Joaquin Valley, California

This report is a result of recent studies of the Cenozoic stratigraphy and structure of the San Joaquin Valley that were directed at Cenozoic depositional and tectonic history. Most previous work on the Cenozoic has focused on the Quaternary surficial deposits and on the outcrops of older rocks at the margins of the valley, although ground-water resource studies of the upper Cenozoic...
