Southeast CASC scientists, students, and partners shared their work with DOI Secretary Deb Haaland and USGS Director Dave Applegate.

Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland and USGS Director Dave Applegate visited the Southeast CASC at their host institution, North Carolina State University, in February 2024, giving students, scientists, and partners affiliated with the Southeast CASC an opportunity to discuss their ongoing climate adaptation work in the region.

The visit kicked off with a roundtable discussion with scientists and partners sharing details about how the Southeast CASC responds to partner needs, including equity focused collaborations in Puerto Rico and with the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, before hearing from three Southeast CASC-supported graduate students on their research experience and project development. North Carolina State University Chancellor Randy Woodson spoke of the importance of DOI partnerships to the progress made in climate adaptation in the region during the reception, at which time, smaller groups were also able to discuss their work with Secretary Haaland and Director Applegate.

Students, partners, and scientists appreciated the visit that allowed them to showcase their progress and achievements in climate adaptation work.
