Drought Monitoring Datasets Available as OGC Web Map Services (WMS)
Web Services
The Drought Monitoring datasets are available as OGC Web Map Services (WMS). You can access the services using the below links.
Application Data Users Info
VegDRI's WMS services can be consumed in ESRI's ArcMap software or in an open source software like QGIS or GAIA.
To open VegDRI WMS services in ArcMap, Open ArcMap application -> Click on Add Data -> GIS Servers -> Add WMS Server -> URL: 'Add a URL' -> OK
Drought Indices
Precipitation Derivatives
- 30 Day Total Precipitation WMS
- 7 Day Total Precipitation WMS
- Maximum Consecutive Dry Days (Past 30 days) WMS
- Maximum Consecutive Dry Days (Past 7 days) WMS
- Days With Precipitation (Past 30 days) WMS
- Days With Precipitation (Past 7 days) WMS
- Days Since Precipitation WMS
Reference Data
- Water Watch - 7 Day WMS
Data Users Info
The above WMS layers have TIME dimension enabled. New data is added to these layers every 7 days. Available time periods for each layer can be found under the Time Dimension tag in WMS GetCapabilites document provided in the links above.
ArcMap user can add the TIME parameter in the layer properties to access data for a specific time period.
QGIS users can use plugins like temporal and time manager to iterate through different time periods available in the layer.
Programmers using GetMap requests, can add TIME parameter in the request to fetch the data for specific time period. For more information on WMS operations, visit this page https://docs.geoserver.org/latest/en/user/services/wms/reference.html
