Dustin A Ethredge

Dustin is a Supervisory Hydrologic Technician with the Colorado Water Science Center, Southeast Colorado Office, in Pueblo.

Dustin began his USGS career as a student with the Southeastern Colorado Office in May 2012. He initially worked for the Hydrologic Studies section of the office, participating in water use data collection. He then spent a significant amount of time participating in geomorphology surveying and assisting with groundwater/surface water interaction studies along Fountain Creek. Beginning in 2013, Dustin began his transition to the Data section of the Southeastern Colorado Office. While splitting time between the Data and Studies sections, Dustin was participating in both groundwater and surface water water-quality projects, including monthly sampling along Fountain Creek and project sampling for the Upper Black Squirrel groundwater study. By 2014, Dustin had transitioned to a full-time position with the Data section, with a shifting focus toward surface water data collection. By 2018, Dustin had become the Surface Water Specialist for the Colorado Water Science Center, providing the Center’s technicians with various precipitation and shift/rating trainings. In late 2019, Dustin became the Supervisory Hydrologic Technician for the surface water data collection activities in the Southeastern Colorado Office. While maintaining a field trip consisting of stage-discharge, precipitation, and a continuous water quality monitor, Dustin is also lucky enough to work with an outstanding team of technicians that maintain a program of approximately 68 streamgages, 4 reservoir gages, 33 precipitation gages, 3 meteorological gages, 2 continuous groundwater gages, and a large discrete groundwater program. Providing high quality data to a variety of stakeholders and cooperators is of the utmost importance and something that Dustin strives to accomplish, but he thoroughly enjoys getting to work with a group of people that share similar passions that consistently come together to reach common goals. He hopes to continue sharing knowledge and encouraging others to strive for career goals that will hopefully lead them to fulfilling, and enjoyable, careers.
