Kelvin Rodriguez

Kelvin Rodriguez is a Supervisory Computer Scientist at the USGS Astrogeology Science Center, where he leads software engineering initiatives that advance planetary science and exploration.

Born in Los Angeles but raised on the west side of Phoenix, AZ, I decided early on to pursue computer science to secure a future. I started undergrad in Phoenix, AZ, before transferring to Northern Arizona University to pursue a job at the nearby USGS Astrogeology Science Center. I started as a student contractor in 2016; now I am a Supervisory Computer Scientist at the USGS Astrogeology Science Center. Today, I leverage my deep-seated passion for open-source engineering to lead the software teams responsible for the Integrated Software for Imagers and Spectrometers (ISIS) and for other work that enhances the interoperability and accessibility of planetary software. With technical knowledge spanning high-performance computing, planetary I/O modules, and computer vision libraries, I specialize in resolving complex multi-image correspondence and bundle adjustment challenges to map other worlds. Driven by community collaboration, I frequently partner with the planetary community and researchers to enhance our open-source software and foundational data products.
