Marco Pazmino is a Physical Scientist with the U.S. Geological Survey Caribbean-Florida Water Science Center in Tampa, Florida. He quantifies and maps water use, particularly outdoor residential irrigation, domestic self-supply, and agricultural irrigation, across Florida and the U.S. Caribbean. He develops methods to estimate withdrawals where direct measurements are limited. His work combines field data, GIS, remote sensing, statistical analysis, and Python/R programming to produce reliable datasets, maps, models, and decision-support tools.
His current research includes estimating self-supplied lawn irrigation withdrawals from private wells in west-central Florida, evaluating agricultural irrigation practices in the U.S. Caribbean territories, and mapping irrigated agricultural lands in Puerto Rico. He collaborates with local, regional, territorial, and federal partners to strengthen water-use information supporting water-availability assessments, water-supply planning, and resource management.
