Brown Treesnake Project
The brown treesnake is an invasive species that decimated many of Guam’s native vertebrate species. Under the leadership of the Pacific Island Ecosystems Research Center (Hawaii) and co-located with U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service at the Guam National Wildlife Refuge, the brown treesnake team works to prevent snakes spreading to other islands, develop and test tools for control efforts on Guam, and...
Brown Treesnake Rapid Response Team
The Brown Treesnake Rapid Response Team (RRT) evaluates snake sightings and quickly deploys when sightings are credible and match a brown treesnake. The RRT is an interagency partnership that cooperatively prevents the spread of brown treesnakes in the United States and territories.
Saipan, data collected from visual surveys during a mock rapid response exercise, October 2023 Saipan, data collected from visual surveys during a mock rapid response exercise, October 2023
These data were created in October 2023 while completing nocturnal visual surveys for brown treesnakes (Boiga irregularis) as part of an early detection and rapid response training exercise. They contain data on counts of lizards, small mammals, and birds documented while completing surveys. There are no brown treesnake counts because no snakes were detected during the exercise.
Guam, Morphometric and height data for brown treesnakes were detected at four sites on Guam, 2006 - 2023 Guam, Morphometric and height data for brown treesnakes were detected at four sites on Guam, 2006 - 2023
These data were collected as part of several studies or efforts to remove brown treesnakes (Boiga irregularis) across three sites located in Guam, USA and one site in Cocos Island (Dano), Guam, USA. The various goals of projects were distinct and these data were applied to a more intensive, cross site comparison on the height snakes were detected during visual surveys as a function of...
Guam, USGS Closed Population (NWFN), an experimental eradication of brown treesnakes in a 5-ha study site, 2016 - 2023 Guam, USGS Closed Population (NWFN), an experimental eradication of brown treesnakes in a 5-ha study site, 2016 - 2023
These data represent a case study on managing the invasive brown treesnake (Boiga irregularis) on Guam within a 5 ha snake enclosure located on Northern Guam. The site code (NWFN or North West Field North) reflects a location on Andersen Air Force Base, Northern Guam, which has been a study site for close to two decades. The experimental process followed an adaptive resource management...
